The Siberian Husky originated in north-eastern Siberia in Russia. Huskies were breed around 3,000 years ago by the Chukchi, which were an Indian tribe, for the purpose of sledding. In 1908 they were brought to Nome in Alaska by fur traders.

Like Labradors, Huskies are intelligent, outgoing, gentle and friendly. Huskies fur can be a variety of different colours like  black, white, piebald, black and tan, black and white, silver, red, copper, brown or grey. Huskies can live for 12 to 15 years. Huskies are friendly and a gentle dog who's not too suspicious of strangers and are not aggressive towards other dogs. This makes it perfect to have with other dogs. They are a wonderful companion and have a good sense of humour.

Throughout the years, Siberian Huskies were always used as sled dogs as they are strong, energetic and always needed a lo of exercise. Sled dogs important as they were and are still used for transportation in arctic areas to bring supplies to places that wouldn't have been accessible any other way. Siberian Huskies are one of the faster breeds used in sledding. Sled dogs are used in Canada, Lapland, Greenland, Siberia, Chukotka, Norway, Finland and Alaska. They were used as guard dogs by the Chukchi tribe, to herd reindeer.

Labradors

In this post I've chosen a breed of dog and I'm going to talk about where they came from, when they first came into existence, their characteristics, what jobs they do now and throughout the ages and generally just about the breed. The breed I have chosen to talk about is the Labrador as I own a black Labrador.

The Labrador are the most popular dog breed in the UK, Canada and the U.S. They originated from Newfoundland, which is now a part of the province Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. They were originally called the St. John's water dog or the lesser Newfoundland dog. The Labrador was founded in 1855 but wasn't recognised in England as a Kennel Breed till 1903 and wasn't registered  by the AKC in the U.S until 1917.

Labradors can be three different colours; black, yellow or chocolate. Labradors are very kind, gentle, even tempered, intelligent and outgoing dogs. They are social and love everyone and love attention. They are full of energy and always up for a game of catch. They are water dogs as their paws are webbed which helps them to swim easier in the water. Labradors are medium to large dogs and they live between 10-14 years.

Labradors have many jobs nowadays. These jobs are hunting, tracking, detection, disabled assistance, carting, rescue/lifesaving and therapy work. Labradors were originally used as gun dogs as their sense of smell was really good so when the prey was shot they were able to find it and track other prey that was on the move. Due to their gentle and kind characteristics they are perfect for therapy dogs as they will sit there and let you pet them all day long. They are smart dogs so they can be easily trained from a young age to be guide dogs or rescue dogs.

What And Where Dogs Originated

In this blog post I will be talking about what and where dogs originated from.

The origin of the domestic dog is not clear but we know that the closest living relative to the dog is the gray wolf and that the dog is a lower classification of it. Dogs are descended from wolves but they could also have descended from a now extinct species of canid whose closest living relative was the wolf.

A study suggests that the first dogs originated from two different populations of ancient wolves, that are now extinct, and that they might have originated from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and East Asia as this is where the wolf population split. Evidence shows that a wolf population split into two groups, the West Eurasian group and East Eurasian group. These two groups were  independently domesticated into two different dog populations around 14,000–6,400 years ago. So this means that the dog was domesticated twice in two different places. "The Western Eurasian dog population was gradually replaced by East Asian dogs, which was introduced by humans at least 6,400 years ago." (Wikipedia)
